Anti-Fracking “Mic Check” Occupies the Watershed

This piece is from the Binghamton, New York, Department of Environmental (DEC) public hearing on November 17th, 2011. It includes a chant from the anti-fracking rally and press conference outside the hearing and a “Mic Check” (human microphone) from the hearing. This anti-fracking “Mic Check” was used to make a three-minute statement that the public was permitted to provide to the DEC with their thoughts about natural gas drilling and fracking in New York. This people’s microphone that has become popular during the Occupy Movement can symbolize protest, collaboration and public engagement.
