Online submissions still open!

Parliament of Fowls

Are you a Los Angeles artist who just heard about L.A. Handprints? Totally bummed you missed the opportunity to display your work at our installation at Home Room in April? Don’t fret — our online gallery is still up and running and accepting submissions!

Head on over to our submissions page and send us your artwork. The more works you can contribute, the better! LA Handprints hopes to organize more local art events in the future, so your participation in the online portion of our project could lead to your work hanging up at Home Room someday. (Don’t forget to share this website with other local artists who might be interested in submitting work.)

A special thanks to all the artists who have shared their wonderful prints. We could not have done this without you!

Intaglio demonstration by Tony Zepeda at Art Center

Anthony Zepeda intaglio demo

Last week, we were invited to visit the studio of master printmaker Tony Zepeda at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. No stranger to the printmaking world, Tony spent many years at Gemini GEL in Los Angeles and worked alongside artists such as Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Serra and David Hockney.

During our visit, we witnessed Tony in action as he made a test print of a new design using intaglio. Special thanks to Tony for allowing us to post these videos to coLAb.

Tony mentioned that this specific print was his own personal tribute to the late Mike Kelley, an influential Los Angeles artist who passed away in January. As a huge fan of Kelley’s work, I was especially touched by the insight and explanation Tony shared in describing his creation of the plate for this print.
